And 38% of Americans who are single and actively looking for a partner have used online dating at one point or another.Most services also encourage members to add photos or videos to their profile.Once a profile has been created, members can view the profiles of other members of the service, using the visible profile information to decide whether or not to initiate contact.Online dating use among 55- to 64-year-olds has also risen substantially since the last Pew Research Center survey on the topic.Today, 12% of 55- to 64-year-olds report ever using an online dating site or mobile dating app versus only 6% in 2013.
